Anxiety

Anxiety related problems are known through different names like: General Anxiety, Panic attacks, Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Behaviour.

Anxiety is not necessarily a bad thing as it can be protective to alert us when we are facing danger – fight or flight, either way, we’ve been alerted.  And now we can act.  However, sometime, anxiety can be paralyzing, and can take on different forms, such as insomnia, being fidgety, tension, nausea, shortness of breath, and heart palpitations.  Anxiety is treatable.

CBT,  Exposure Therapy, EMDR offered at Mind Health Care are the treatments of choice.

Depression

It can involve the body, mood, and thoughts, that affects the way a person eats and sleeps, the way one feels about oneself, and the way one thinks about things.

Most of us have felt extreme sadness at some point in our lives.  But, when the sadness becomes prolonged and interferes with our ability to function effectively and be present, it becomes depression.  And, this extreme sadness can show itself in various ways, such as low energy, loss of interest, irritability, isolation, hopelessness, distraction, and guilt.

For all disorders of Depression, including, Mood Swings, Bipolar Disorder or Dysthymia, CBT and EMDR offered at Mind Health Care are the treatments of choice.

Trauma

Trauma is often the result of an overwhelming amount of stress that exceeds one's ability to cope.

It can come in many forms – emotional, verbal, sexual, and physical – and elicits both a biological and psychological response.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

Most people who go through traumatic events may have temporary difficulty adjusting and coping, but with time and good self-care, they usually get better. If the symptoms get worse, last for months or even years, and interfere with your day-to-day functioning, you may have PTSD.

CBT and EMDR are both the most effective treatment offered at Mind Health Care.

Couples Therapy

Relationships offer wonderful benefits for wellbeing, life satisfaction, and stress management, but none are without their challenges. These issues can put a strain on a couple, but working through them can either strengthen their bond or push them apart, depending on how they handle the challenges they face. Working through marriage problems in a healthy way can be very difficult, especially because stressors in a marriage can come from many different sources.

Perhaps the biggest predictor of marriage problems is Poor Communication or Negative Communication that belies damaging attitudes and dynamics within the relationship.

The Mind Health Care team has a long and very successful experience of dealing with couple’s problems.

Family Problems

All families face problems, from mild to severe. Left unaddressed, they can lead to behavioral problems in children, repeated family conflicts, and other mental ...

Common family problems include communication breakdowns, lack of discipline, lack of respect, parenting concerns and adjustment to divorce. Frequent arguments, avoidance, angry outbursts, disagreement and physical conflict within a family reveal that there are problems. Drug abuse, harassment, gambling, financial challenges, issues of sexuality and lack of trust are the main triggers of problems within a family.

Mind Health Care has worked with families belonging to different cultures and has rich experience in offering help to families.

Relationships

Henry Winkler said Assumptions are the termites of relationships.

All of us need work on our relationships... Relationships need renewal or they die

Relationships can come in many different forms, such as the ones we have with our significant others, parents, siblings, children, business partners, co-workers, staff, and friends.  At times, we may feel unheard, minimized, confused, angry, hurt, and frustrated.  Learning to hear each other differently, and communicate more effectively takes patience, and we can help guide you through the process of being able to listen more closely, and communicate more successfully.

Life Transitions

Tennessee William said, “The future is called ‘perhaps,’ which is the only possible thing to call the future. And the important thing is not to allow that to scare you”

Our lives are ever changing, even when we don’t expect the change to happen.  Some changes occur naturally, such as graduating from high school or college, starting a new job, starting a new relationship, and having a family.  And while these changes are welcomed, they aren’t without their challenges.  Sometimes, we’re just not prepared even though we thought we were.  And, sometimes, these welcomed changes don’t go the way we had hoped.

Mind Health Care can help you navigate through various challenges so you are better equipped to face them.

Health Concerns

Depression caused by chronic disease often makes the condition worse, especially if the illness causes pain and fatigue or it limits a person's ability to interact with others. Depression can intensify pain, as well as fatigue and sluggishness. The combination of chronic illness and depression might lead you to isolate yourself, which is likely to make the depression even worse.

It can be difficult for individuals with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or obesity to adjust to their diagnosis, manage treatment regimens, and open up to family and friends about their situation – all while trying to make sense of the wide range of emotions they are experiencing.  We can help you navigate these changes, process emotions, and develop coping skills, thus allowing you to communicate better and live a healthier, happier life.
